“The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.”
Luke 6:40
In learning about leadership, who you follow is very important because you will become like the one you follow. The Message Bible puts our opening scripture this way, “An apprentice doesn't lecture the master. The point is to be careful who you follow as your teacher.” This is important because whoever you choose as your mentor is an embodiment of your values.
The New International Version puts our opening scripture this way, “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” Who do you really want to be like? Paul the Apostle in writing to the Philippian Church in Philippians 3:12 said, “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” This reveals to us that the gold standard is to be like Jesus.
Therefore, before you follow anyone, make sure the person’s live inspires you to become like Jesus. Also, if you are a leader in any capacity (this applies to everyone because someone is following you whether you realize it or not) make sure you embrace, embody and reflect the vision, virtues and values seen in the life of Jesus to those you lead because that is the gold standard of leadership.
Instruction.
Sow a seed of prayer into the lives of your Pastor and teachers that they stand perfect and complete in all the will of God for their lives and for grace to be released to them to finish their course without reproach.
