“It was the Lord's Day, and I was
worshiping in the Spirit…” Rev 1:10 (NLT)
There are lots of Christians who are still unaware of why we
worship on Sunday. We worship on Sundays for the following reasons:
Number one,
because it was the day that Jesus rose again
from the dead. He rose on the first day of the week which is Sunday. “It was early on Sunday morning when
Jesus rose from the dead …” Mark 16:9 (NLT)
Number two,
we
worship on a Sunday because it is the day that the Holy Spirit fell. ” On
the day of Pentecost, seven weeks after Jesus' resurrection, the believers were
meeting together in one place.” Acts 2:1 (NLT)
Number three,
we
worship on Sundays because that was the day the early church worshipped. They
met on Sunday. This is why the bible says in Acts 20:7 (MSG), “We met on Sunday to worship and
celebrate the Master's Supper.”
It is important we know this, because it helps us
know why we do what we do. And when you study the Bible in John 20:19, you’ll
observe that Jesus appeared to his disciples on Sunday. John 20:19 says, “Then the same day at evening, being the first day
of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for
fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace
be unto you.”
Why is
it important you know this? It is
because, until you know the purpose of a thing, you cannot receive the full
benefit thereof. For instance, many people get married without knowing the
purpose of marriage. Many people go into the ministry without knowing the
purpose of ministry. And as long as you
don’t know the purpose of a thing, you are limited in your ability to enjoy
that thing, and to fully maximize the use of that thing.
This is why I am letting you know some of the reasons we
worship on Sunday, because I learned something from a great man of God that has
passed on to glory, Edwin Luis Cole, he said, “a man who knows how, will always
have the job, but a man who knows why will always be his boss”. Ever since I heard this statement in 1996,
I’ve always wanted to know why. Because a man who knows why will always be
ahead.

including my offering and prayers, may they all be acceptable unto you,
sanctified of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Name. Amen.
