Love like Jesus.
“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”
1 Peter 4:8
If you genuinely love someone, you will overlook their offense. This is because love is an unconditional disposition of goodwill to the undeserving. So when you do good to someone who does not deserve it, you are loving like Jesus. How much more your spouse, you should always do good to them even when they offend you and do not deserve it.
Holding bitterness in your heart against anyone is like drinking poison and expecting your enemy to die. Jesus said in Matthew 5:44, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” This teaches us that our response to those who insult us or hurt us is for us to bless them. What about those who hate you? If you have any opportunity to do them good, do not turn away; do them good. If people are persecuting you, He teaches you to pray for them. Note that everything Jesus teaches us to do is what He Himself practiced when He walked this earth. When Jesus was nailed to the cross, what He said to those who tortured him and persecuted Him when He was not found guilty of any offense will let you know that He was love personified indeed. Jesus said in Luke 23:34, “… Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…” This same Jesus admonishes us today to love others even as He has loved us.
Prayer.
Dear Father, I choose to let go of all offence and I choose to forgive all who have offended me. I receive grace to practically bless them, do them good when I have the opportunity and pray for them; that they will come to know the love of Christ, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
