Delight in the word.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”Psalm 1:1-2(KJV)

Our opening scripture shows us that if you want to be successful, you must delight in the word of God, in other words, you must love the word of God and it must be your meditation, day and night.

The amazing thing about loving something is the tendency to always meditate on that thing. Therefore, we love what we meditate on, and we meditate on what we love. So if you find out that you really do not have a passion for the word of God like you should as a child of God, what you need to do to reignite that passion is to meditate on the word of God.

The word meditate in Psalm 1:2 is the word ‘hagah’, it means to speak under your breath, in other words, you talk the word of God to yourself. Also, discuss the word of God. Find someone that you will talk the word of God with. The word ‘hagah’ also means to device, to plot. So, think on the word of God. If you will start doing this, your love for the word of God will increase.

Whatever you expose yourself to is what you will desire. And this is one of the ways to affect your thinking. Surround yourself with images of success; listen to messages like preparing for success again and again and fill your mind with the word of God and meditate on it, when you do, you will definitely “…be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3. That will be the picture of your life. Shalom.

Prayer
Dear Father, I choose to be a doer of the word of God, therefore, as I delight myself in the word of God and meditate upon it day and night, I increase in productivity, I bring forth my fruit in my season, there shall be no dryness in my life and whatsoever I do shall prosper in Jesus Name. Amen.

Arise!

“Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.” Joshua 1:2(KJV)

Notice in our opening scripture, God said to Joshua, arise and take the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Now, Moses was supposed to bring them into the Promise Land; but Moses died, and they mourned him for 30 days. After 30 days God said, “Arise, you and all these people.” The NIV says, “… You and all these people, get ready.” This shows you that you prepare for success. God told Joshua, get ready. In other words, God was saying to him, Prepare for success, take responsibility right now Joshua.

It is time to stop mourning the Moses in your life. Stop complaining and saying, “If only I had gone to school.” But who said to you that the richest people are those who went to school? Yes, it is good to go to school, and it is not too late because you can still go to school now.

I read of a medical doctor in America that went through different parts to complete his medical degree. His dream was to become a medical doctor. He became a medical doctor at the age of 68. How old are you? It is never too late, all you need to do is to take personal responsibility for where you are and stop wishing saying, “If Moses was here things would have been better.” If you think and talk that way, God will have to wait until you can raise your Moses from the dead for you to start that your journey.

Therefore, stop complaining and wishing that things were better. Take responsibility for where you are and consciously begin to take steps in the direction of your destiny.

Prayer
Dear Father, today I accept responsibility for my success. I choose to forget the mistakes of the past, and I choose to forgive all those who have wronged me in the past. I also choose to stop complaining, but I ask that you direct my way and my steps in the direction of your destiny for my life in Jesus Name, Amen.

Your success is your responsibility.

“When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn't do but on what God said he would do… ” Romans 4:18(MSG)

From our opening scripture, Abraham had to believe God inspite of the hopelessness he saw. He took personal responsibility for his success in the word of God.

Do you know that Wilson Churchill who can be attributed to be one of the greatest Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was thought to be a dunce. But he took responsibility for his life and he became successful.
Success begins with a sense of personal responsibility. You must change your thinking to believe that you are responsible for what you turn out to be. Don’t just sit there saying, “they said I am a dunce.” No! God made you better than that.

Are you aware that they said Michael Faraday was mentally retarded? Yet he took responsibility for his life and he went on to have one of the biggest breakthroughs in electricity which we are enjoying today. The same thing was said about Isaac Newton; he was said to be mentally retarded. Yet he also took responsibility for his life and he went on in history to become one of the greatest inventors as he discovered the law of gravity. What have you come to believe about you?

In Romans 4:18, the bible speaks of Abraham saying “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.” In other words, we become what we believe.

The Bible says, “… Abraham believed in hope …” What is hope? Hope is that positive picture you have in your mind. So, Abraham believed that new picture, he believed the new picture God gave him of his future and he became the father of many nations even as it is written. So God may desire you to prosper, God may desire you to be in health, but you’ve got to believe for it to come to pass in your life.

Confession

Your road map for success 2

“The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.” Ecclesiastes 10:15(KJV)

There is a company called YTL headed by Francis Yeoh. He is an ethnic Chinese in Malaysia, but he is a Christian. Francis Yeoh’s father was involved in a construction business and he wanted to join his father when he was about sixteen years of age. But his father refused to allow him join him but instead sent him to England to study Civil Engineering. After graduating from school and studying engineering, he took over the business of his father when he was twenty four years of age.

Today, that business YTL is the largest conglomerate in Malaysia. Why? It is because he prepared for success. He went to school to study Civil Engineering. Today he and his company is pioneering 4G in Malaysia. So Malaysia has the best and most developed 4G in the world. Francis Yeoh was asked one time in an interview, “why are you doing all these things?” He answered and said, “Because we are stewards of the future.”

Proverbs 30:25 says, “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer” This also emphasis the importance of preparation. Preparation is also important because Ecclesiastes 9:11 says, “…that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” In other words, people are not poor because of lack of resources, but they are poor because of the lack of preparation. This is because time and chance comes to us all. But will your opportunity meet you prepared?

A man can be a graduate and be grounded in poverty if he is not able to take advantage of his opportunity when it comes. Having a plan will help position you to be able to take advantage of your time and opportunity when it comes. So, make your plans today because the future belongs to those who prepare for it.

Prayer
Dear Father I ask that you help me not to miss my timing when it comes. Help me to be sensitive and able to identify and seize my opportunity when it comes. In your mercy I ask that you position me in such a way that my opportunity will meet me prepared in Jesus Name. Amen.

Your road map for success 1

“The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.” Ecclesiastes 10:15(KJV)

Just as we see in our opening scripture, for you to be able to fulfill God’s dream for your life, you must know the how to? The ‘how to’ is your plan. It is said that there are enough resources for the man that has a well articulated plan to utilize it. There are more than enough resources for that man.

There was a time when Jesse Duplantis wanted two hundred thousand dollars, and Oral Roberts needed one million dollars. Jesse Duplantis did not  get his two hundred thousand dollars in one year but Oral Roberts got his one million dollars in two weeks.

When Jesse Duplantis saw this, he asked the Lord, why have you not given me my two hundred thousand dollars but Oral Roberts needed one million dollars and you gave it to him. The Lord answered him and said, “Oral Roberts had a plan.”

I want you to understand that your dream is your destination and your plan is your road map. How can you get to your destination without a map? You would not know exactly where you are going. It is just like someone in Yenagoa who says, “I am going to Port Harcourt in Rivers State” but because he does not know which way leads to Port Harcourt and how to get there, he goes to enter a boat going to Brass. As a result of his ignorance and having no road map to where he was going, he ends up in Brass.

Therefore, get a road map to where you are going with your life, in other words unless you plan, you may never get to your destination.

Prayer
Dear Father I thank you for I am filled with the knowledge of your will for my life in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. I receive grace by your spirit to stand perfect and complete in all your will for my life in Jesus Name. Amen.

Define your dream

“And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.”
2 Chronicles 2:5(KJV)

From our opening scripture, we see from the words of King Solomon that he knew exactly what he was setting out to do. Therefore, for you also as an individual, before you set out on any project, your dream must be defined. As a ministry, what we want to achieve is defined. I have had it written down for many years and I am seeing most of those things come to pass.

There was a research carried out on Harvard graduates and they said only ten percent knew what they wanted to do with their lives. Only three percent had it written down and had a plan to reach it. They found out that those three percent were the ones that were thriving more than the ninety seven percent that came out of school.

Do you know that your God writes down His plans? Are you aware that God already planned how the heavens will be? All the dimensions and details are there in the Bible. When God wanted Noah to build an ark for him he did not leave him in doubt, he told him the kind of wood he wanted. He told him to use Gopher wood. And God made him know that the ark must have three dimensions with a window on top because God knew that the flood will be so much and the man will need a window from the top. These plans God gave to Noah were all written down.

Paul Joe Meyer a great Christian sales man and also a Speaker said that those who have goals and dreams that they have not written down have vague dreams and they produce vague results.

What does God want to do with your life?  Unless you are able to articulate it clearly by writing it down, you would not be able to imagine it consistently.

Prayer
Dear Father, I ask that you grant unto me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you and I receive full and precise understanding of your plan and purpose for my life in Jesus Name. Amen.

Pay attention to details.

“For wealth is not for ever, and money does not go on for all generations.” Proverbs 27:24(BBE)

From our opening scripture we are able to learn that money is transient in nature, we must learn to pay attention to certain important details that will cause us to master money and make speedy progress in our lives or in our business. This is because a lot of times, the difference between success and failure are in these little details like having proper financial management.

As you pay attention to these important details, you must also learn to set goals for yourself. Ask yourself, what do I want to achieve in this month? Or what do I want to achieve in this year? Write it down and work towards it.

The parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16 lets us know that we ought to take records seriously. The steward was able cheat his boss, and there was a waste of resources because they had no records. The boss heard that his steward was wasting his goods so he asked him to give account of his stewardship, but the steward had no account, and since he was going to be fired he decided he was going to go to everyone that was owing his boss, find out how much they owed since he kept no records, and then ask them to pay less.

So if you do not want to experience loss and waste in your business as well, you must learn to keep records.
Start today to begin to keep records; don’t procrastinate because you will not keep records tomorrow if you do not keep records today.

Prayer
Dear Father, I recognize that you have made me a steward over all that I have. They are not mine but yours. I repent for every area of my life where I have mismanaged the resources that you have given to me. I receive grace today for a fresh start and for greater accountability and stewardship over all you've given me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Be diligent.

“The hand of the diligent shall bear rule …” Proverbs 12:24(KJV)

Our opening scripture lets us know that the diligent would surely arise to leadership and authority. Your diligence is what will make someone leave your competitors and come and buy from you. Being diligent in what you do is what will make others seek for your service and prefer you above others? Diligence would give you an edge over others because you will be able to offer what they cannot offer.

As you prepare for success, you must believe in your dream and in all God has called you to do. Do not talk yourself down; neither should you talk down your business. This is because people do not just buy your product, they buy you. People buy into you first before they buy your product.
As a man or woman who is preparing for success in every area of your life, you must be a person who pays attention to details. Proverbs 27:23 says, “Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.” Paying attention to details will put you ahead.

The restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings in America began as a campus bar having no accounting records. Later, they got a woman to take over it, and this lady set up the accounting records and as soon as the accounting records were set, they began to grow better. Yet it’s amazing how most people in business do not pay attention to accounting records. In your business, do you have a book of account where you track every spending and every income? Paying attention to accounting details was one of the reasons why Buffalo Wild Wings became successful. You also must be diligent and pay attention to important details.

Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you for grace for diligence in my spiritual life, in my business, in my academics, in research, and in all that has to do with me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Strategy for growth.

“Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.                 Proverbs 24:3-4(KJV)

If your business is going to move from one generation to another, you must have a plan. For instance if you observe coca-cola or some other companies like them, they are always researching. It is also amazing that most of the malls in America play a particular music that makes you buy things. They studied and researched human behavior and produced songs and the environment that will create in you the desire to buy things even if you didn’t want to buy them.

The producers of some of these cereals in America, draw cartoon characters on them because they know that children will identify with some of these cartoon characters. So, as soon as that young child sees any of these cartoon characters he likes as he passes in the mall, he calls out to his or her mum to buy that particular cereal because they identify with that particular cartoon character on it. That’s a strategy from research and planning.

So, one of the ways you prepare for success is by research. Do you know your business? A young man was asked in an interview by a big firm to which he was sent to get a contract. They asked him, “Do you know your business?” The young man answered and began to talk about his business, his fire extinguisher, and what will happen even after you buy his fire extinguisher, saying that even the waste can be used in farms and gardens. Now what he developed was something that could be recycled to be a blessing to others. Therefore, he was able to maximize the opportunity he got from the owner of that firm having about five hundred hotels around the world. So, his research gave him an edge when the opportunity came.

Are you working on improving your product better than what exists in the market? Do something about improving on what you do, make it better than what already exists, because you have the mind of Christ.

Prayer
Father I thank you for you have given me a sound mind and the wisdom of God is at work in me helping me to find out knowledge of witty inventions because an excellent spirit is in me. My ideas rule the world in Jesus Name. Amen.

Preparation births excellence.

“Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was perfected.”
2 Chronicles 8:16(KJV)
Excellence is a product of preparation.
There is a restaurant in America called Buffalo Wild Wings. The lady that runs the restaurant was asked to tell how they became successful; and she said that one of the reasons they were able to spread was because they researched. Then they asked her, “What are you going to be doing to be able to spread your business to Europe, Asia and other parts of the world.” And she answered, “We have a twenty four months plan to research it.” Yet a lot of us just jump at opportunity without preparing for opportunity.

Therefore, I encourage you to prepare for success, be like Solomon whom the Bible says in our opening scripture; prepared adequately for the work of the temple, from the foundation until it was finished and the house was perfected.

So, if you want to have a great business, it is very important you prepare by researching, find out, who is my customer? Who is my competition? What will I offer my customer that will beat my competition?

Buffalo Wild Wings we talked about earlier actually became successful in America because they researched and found out that most of the chickens in America are frozen, so they kept their chicken fresh. They took note of something that they could improve upon that would give them an edge, so that made them successful. So if you are in business today, carry out a research about your competition and discover what will give you an edge over your competition.

Prayer
Dear Father I thank you because you teach me how to profit in my business and in all that concerns me. Thank you for giving me wisdom above my competitors and wisdom into the hidden details in my field and business. Thank you for ideas and concepts that will bring about exceptional growth and increase in Jesus Name, Amen.

Hindrance to success.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1(KJV)

From our opening scripture, we see that one of the things that will hinder your success is the counsel of the ungodly. Many years ago when America began to go deeply into debt, the nation went into debt first, and then the nation got its people into debt. America is the largest debtor in the world. It was a choice based on the wrong counsel. I heard someone say that Nigeria should make sure that the masses should have credit facilities available to them, saying, that the nation should see to it that money is available for people to build houses on credit, and buy cars on credit, just the way it is done in America. If only they knew that by so doing, they are about to lead the nation Nigeria into greater debt, they would not think and talk that way. America’s greatest problem today is debt and they’re regretting that they went in that direction.

So where do you get your counsel from? As a businessman, where do you get your counsel? Have you studied that idea or concept to know if it will eventually work?

Do not follow ungodly counsel. Some people may wrongly counsel you and say, “If you want people to respect you, you have to be very harsh,” No! It is not by been very harsh; but rather, be very firm. What is the difference between the two? Being very harsh means you have bad character.  It means that you are inhospitable and severely critical to others. But being firm means you are definite on principle. In other words, you are living based on godly standards in your dealings with others.

So it is important that you always study the principle or any idea that is given to you. This is because following the counsel of the ungodly will lead you away from success God’s way and the blessing. Any idea that is not consistent with God’s word will empower you to fail.

Prayer
Dear Father I choose to live and conduct my life only by your counsel. I ask that you expose every seed of falsehood that have entered into my belief system so that I will be able to prove the good, acceptable and perfect will of God for my life in Jesus Name. Amen.

Measure your success.

“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind” Ephesians 4:17(KJV)

Don’t judge your success by the symbols of success but judge your success by the day to day accomplishment of goals and targets in the direction of your destiny. If you don’t know this, you may never understand what true success really is.

For instance, if you are through with your university education and you have your Bsc or Msc or Phd and you are satisfied that you’ve achieved that level of success, and now you’re happy about it. In the same way, the guy that just left Senior Secondary School 3 and made his post UME, and passed the average required is also as fulfilled as you are. That is why we say, success is the day to day accomplishment of goals and targets in the direction of your destiny.

Notice I am using the word in the direction of your destiny because; to succeed outside of your destiny is failure, especially for the Christian, because the ultimate measure of success is the fulfillment of the purpose for which you were born.

Success is the realization of a God given objective. So every time you accomplish something God told you to do, that is success. That changes your view of success. This is because for some people, being a success is having a particular kind of house, or driving a particular kind of car, and that’s all. No! To some others success is achieving their human ambition, but there is more to success than just the achievement of human goals and dreams and the acquiring of material possessions.

What about the goal of becoming a better person, and the accomplishment of your destiny and God’s dream for your life? Those are the true measures for success.

Prayer: Dear Father my earnest desire is to please you with my life by the fulfillment of my destiny. I ask that you fill me with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that I may walk worthy of you and be fully pleasing unto you, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of you in Jesus Name, Amen.

Succeed daily

“He prayed, " LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today and keep your promise to my master. ”                         Genesis 24:12(GNB).

In our opening scripture, Eliezer the eldest servant of Abraham prayed to God to make him successful because of what he has been sent to do by his master Abraham.

Success is the day to day accomplishment of goals and targets in the direction of your destiny. It is very important you know this because some people feel that they are a success because they are the Chairman of a Local Government, or because they are a Pastor. No, success is the day to day accomplishment of goals and targets in the direction of your destiny. So you can measure your success daily.

Success is also the attainment of a goal. For instance if you had a goal to finish Primary School and you finished it, that is success for you at that level. We live in levels and we arrive in stages. Not understanding that there are different levels of success causes some people to lose their sense of fulfillment in life. Learn to measure your success from day to day based on the daily accomplishment of goals and targets that are in the direction of your destiny. You will be more fulfilled that way.

On the 5th of April, 1996, the day I got my commission, I was in a meeting and the Lord spoke to me saying, “Never measure success by outward standards, but by inward fulfillments.”

You are responsible for what you become.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8(KJV)

From our opening scripture, God made Joshua know that he was responsible for what he becomes. He clearly gave Joshua what he needed to do to be successful and prosperous. God told him; keep the word of God in your mouth, speak the word of God and meditate on it day and night and practice what the word of God teaches. By those instructions God made it clear that every man’s success is his responsibility.

Therefore, you must take full responsibility for where you are. Don’t just say, “Oh I am from a poor family that is why I can’t make it.” 80% of world’s richest men are from poor and average families. So, if you’re from a poor family, you have 80% likelihood of becoming rich if you prepare for success.

So, no matter the circumstances that you are going through right now, you must accept full responsibility for where you are, otherwise you are not going to succeed. This is because until we are willing to take responsibility for where we are, we won’t take the initiative and responsibility to make progress. Zig Ziglar said, “A man is no failure unless he is able to blame someone else for where he is.” So if you begin to blame other people like your parents, your friends, etc. for where you are today, then you are not ready to make progress from where you are.

As long as you do not change from thinking like a victim, you will be stock where you are because Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he …” So the success you desire begins inside of you.

Prayer
Dear Father, I take full responsibility for where I am today. I submit my heart to your wisdom and the ability of your spirit to empower me to be able to take the necessary steps for my progress and success in Jesus Name. Amen.

You have no reason to be a failure.

“The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.”                     Proverbs 12:24(KJV)

Have you seen Nick Vujicic, he has no hands, only one small leg. Yet he is not poor today. He swims, he writes, he is a motivational speaker, he has spoken to a stadium full of people. So what excuse would you want to give on why you are not a success?

You must take full responsibility for where you are. That is when you will start walking towards success. But when you still have someone to blame you are not ready yet. Zig Ziglar said, “A man is no failure until he begins to blame someone for where he is.” So, success begins with a sense of responsibility. You ask yourself, “How can I move from here to there?”

The wealthiest woman in the world is a billionaire and she is black, from a very poor background. Yet she said she made up her mind that everything she does, she will do it with a hundred and ten percent. She said so because she knew that excellence is the greatest deterrent to sexism and racism. And she became the richest woman in the world in the billions.

Don’t say words like, “if I was from a wealthy home, I know the way my life would have been by now.” Being from a wealthy home does not mean you will get anywhere if you have the wrong mindset. Now you are already here so do something with your life. There are a lot of people who started from very poor homes but became very great.

Lester Calvin Brown was said to be mentally retarded, but as he waited for his friend in His friend’s class. His friend’s Algebra teacher walked in, wrote a question on the board and called on Lester Calvin Brown to go and solve it. He answered the teacher telling him he was not supposed to be in that class. But the teacher still insisted that he should go and solve the question. Then Calvin told the teacher he was mentally retarded. Then the teacher answered and said to him, “Do not allow someone else’s opinion of you become your reality.” This is because the way you see yourself is what decides the way you will act.

Today Lester Calvin Brown reads four books every week, every time he is invited to speak for about 45 minutes to one hour he is paid four hundred and fifty thousand dollars yet he was said to be mentally retarded but when he took responsibility and started reading he became a success.
