“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matthew 6:25-26(KJV)
Our opening scripture is an instruction from Jesus to you. He tells you not to worry about your life. Don't worry about food and clothes. If your heavenly Father feeds the birds, how much more will He feed you.
Jesus is letting us know that we are of a greater value than birds. So, one thing you must not do this year is worry. Do not worry about anything, no matter how big or small. This is because God never gets involved in anything you are worrying about, because the root of worry is unbelief. Unbelief hinders God.
The Bible says in Matthew 6:27, “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” In other words, can you by worry become any taller than you are right now? If you can't do that, then, “… why take ye thought for raiment? …” Matthew 6:28. In other words, why then do you worry about clothes?“… Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:” Matthew 6:28. Jesus is teaching us about life from the lilies of the field, they grow without toiling or spinning. So, Jesus is teaching us that life is not just about struggling, or savings. I believe in saving and I teach others to save, but there is more to your success as a child of God than savings.
Therefore, Matthew 6:29-30 says, “And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” This shows you that your success in life as a child of God is dependent on your faith.
