What Is Leadership?

“The mark of a good leader is loyal followers; leadership is nothing without a following.”
Proverbs 14:28 (MSG).

What is leadership? Leadership is the ability to inspire followership. Who is a leader? A leader is someone others are willing to follow. Therefore, you know you are a leader when others are willing to follow you.

Leadership is influence. This definition was given by Oswald Senders many years ago. He is the author of the book; 'Spiritual Leadership'. (I encourage you to read it if you can find it.)

What then is influence? Influence is the ability to determine the thoughts, words and actions of another.

Leadership is responsibility. It is taking responsibility for the wellbeing of another. It is taking responsibility for results. This was what made David a leader in Israel, he took the responsibility to take down Goliath and leadership came to him. This reveals to us that leadership gravitates towards the man or woman who will take responsibility for the wellbeing of others.

Therefore, if you will take responsibility for the wellbeing of others and for results where you are now, leadership will come towards you.

Prayer.
Dear Father, today I accept my call to take on the responsibility of leadership within my sphere of influence. I ask that you endow me with the grace required to be able to see and love all those within my sphere the way you see and love them, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

1 Samuel 17:17-58.

Doing the Word
Don't be selfish. Be willing to take responsibility for the wellbeing of others around you.
