Consistency And Competence

“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
2 Timothy 2:2.

If you are going to be an effective leader, you must develop consistency and faithfulness. Faithfulness is consistency of character. It means to be reliable and trustworthy.

When you have consistency in your life as a person, you will become trustworthy. Consistency is one of the things I look for in people; not ability.

Another virtue you need to develop in your life to be effective as a leader is competence. Competence is your ability to carry out your assignment effectively. In Exodus 18:21 (MSG), the Bible says, “And then you need to keep a sharp eye out for competent men — men who fear God, men of integrity, men who are incorruptible — and appoint them as leaders over groups organized by the thousand, by the hundred, by fifty, and by ten.” This shows us that competence is one of the requirements for leadership. A competent man in God's perspective is a man who has the fear of God, a man of integrity and a man who is incorruptible. Without such competence, you cannot carry out God's work effectively.
This is why when the Apostles wanted to appoint Deacons in Acts chapter 6, those were the same things they looked out for. Acts 6:2-3 says, “Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”

I encourage you to develop competence because the measure of your competence will determine the measure of your influence. The more your level of competence increases, the more value you will add to whatever you do. Also, money is a reward for adding value, therefore your income will as well increase.

Prayer.
Dear Father, I ask that You strengthen me with might according to the riches of Your glory by Your Spirit in my inner man to do all that You have called me to do effectively, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
