“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” Matthew 6:31-32(KJV)
Today I will like to ask you a question, why do you want to be rich and prosperous? I wonder what your sincere answer to that question really is. Our opening scripture exposes to us what the Gentiles or unbelievers seek after, the reason why they want to be rich and prosperous is because of what they want to eat, what they want to drink and what they want to wear. The main objective of their prosperity is meeting their needs, pleasure and making a name for themselves; whether in the arts, science or in amassing material possession. Their focus is never for expanding the kingdom of God, such prosperity leads to their destruction. (See Luke 12:15-21)
The main priority you should have as a child of God as the reason why you want to be rich and prosperous should be for the expansion of the kingdom of God. Do not become so engaged by the things of this world that you forget the main reason why we are here. The Bible says in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” When you make the kingdom of God your priority, you will of necessity have what to eat, drink and wear in abundance and He will also prosper the work of your hands.
INSTRUCTION
Today just like the Macedonian church in 2 Corinthians 8, I encourage you to first rededicate yourself to God and then commit yourself to the gospel in consistent partnership in prayer, giving financially and participation in kingdom expansion.
For further study read:
2 Corinthians 8:1-5, Philippians 1:27, 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2.
