What Is Authority?

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Luke 10:19(NKJV)

In this month's devotional, we are going to be studying on the authority of a believer. Our opening scripture shows us that God has given you authority if you a Christian.

Therefore, it is important for us to begin by defining what we mean by authority. What is authority? Authority is delegated influence or power. Authority can also be defined as the right to command or enforce obedience.

From the first definition of authority above, it is obvious that authority can be delegated from one person to another. Therefore what is delegation? To delegate is to entrust to another. To delegate means to deputize; which means to transfer power to someone by authorizing or empowering them to act on your behalf or make decisions on your behalf.

Our opening scripture therefore means that Jesus has delegated His power and influence to us so each Christian has the right to command and enforce obedience over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt him or her.

Confession
In the Name of Jesus, I declare that I have received authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt me. Amen.
