“And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?” John 1:19
Who are you? Have you ever been asked that question? That was the question that was directed to John by the priests and Levites who wanted to know his identity. They asked him again in John 1:21-22, “… Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?”
John answered and said to them in John 1:23, “… I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.” John knew his identity, therefore he was not insecure when he was asked concerning his identity. He didn’t claim someone else’s identity, he knew exactly who he was based on God’s plan and purpose for his life.
This is why knowing God’s vision (plan and purpose) for your life is important because it helps you to discover who you really are. Knowing God’s vision for your life will also give you a sense of purpose for living.
