What is vision?

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
Proverbs 29:18

The word 'vision' connotes 'to see.' Therefore from the natural man's point of view, vision can be defined as a mental concept of a preferable future. Vision can also be defined as a pictorial description of the future you desire.

Vision from the concept of scripture refers to a prophetic revelation. Based on that concept, we can define vision as a revelation of God's plan and purpose for your life. This reveals that vision is the essence of life, so if you don't have a vision, your life would lack meaning. A vision guides your life so if you don't have a vision, you wouldn't know your destination in life.

A broader definition of vision from the concept of scripture is a revelation of God's plan and purpose for a person, a family, a business or a nation. There is a vision for every nation, and until a nation finds out her purpose for existence, her people will be adrift. This is because vision has cohesive power; it binds people together.
