Lessons From Jesus 1

"So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered
to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.' His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'” Matthew 25:20-21 (NKJV).

Our opening scripture is part of the parable of the talents told by Jesus. One principle you can learn from this parable of the talents if you are in any form of business is this: Always multiply what God gives you. You are to return whatever idea he has given you with interest. This is because when the servants were given the talents to go trade in the parable, the Lord of the servants expected interest or profit back. The servant that didn't bring back a return was reprimanded by the Lord saying, “… 'You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.” Matthew 25:26-27 (NKJV).

The scriptures above reveals that God expects each of us to trade with and multiply in this life whatever talent we have received from Him. That is where your wealth and increase lies. If you do nothing with the talent God has given you, you will be broke. You have what it takes to succeed. When you study the parables of Jesus in the gospels you will discover that Jesus spoke more about money than He did about casting out devils and prayer. For instance, in Matthew 13:44-46 Jesus told a parable of a treasure hidden in a field and a pearl of great price which he that found it went and sold all he had to buy it. That teaches about pragmatic investment. First, there was foresight, the man saw the treasure hidden in the field and the pearl of great price before he went to buy it. This teaches that it is important to have foresight before you make any investment. This is Jesus teaching us how to do business.
