What is mercy?

"Thou shalt arise, and have mercy on Zion for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come"
 Psalm 102:13.
The word translated mercy; 'hesed', is also the word translated loving kindness in scripture. 'Hesed' therefore means kindness, beauty, favour, good deed, goodliness, goodness, loving kindness, lovingly, mercy, pity etc.
This is why the amplified translation renders our opening scripture thus, "You will arise and have mercy and loving-kindness for Zion, for it is time to have pity and compassion for her; yes, the set time has come (the moment designated)."
Having a revelation and an understanding the mercy of God also lead to the manifestation of the glory of God, also known as the manifested goodness of God in your life.
In Exodus 33:18, Moses asked to see the glory of God. God said to him in verse 39 (AMP), "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim My name, THE LORD, before you; for I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy and loving-kindness on whom I will show mercy and loving-kindness." God's reply reveals to us that the glory of the Lord refers to the manifested goodness of God.
So, if you want to see the glory of God manifested in your life, then you will have to receive a revelation of His goodness, His Name, and more importantly His grace and mercy. This is what we will be studying throughout this month's devotional. Therefore expect the manifested goodness of God to show up in your life this month.
PRAYER:
Dear Father, I ask that You grant unto me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. That the eyes of my understanding may be enlightened to know the hope of Your calling and the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints in Jesus Name. Amen.
