“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” John 15:12-14(KJV)
From our opening scripture, Jesus is saying to us that your love walk is a proof of your intimacy with Him. So if you want to know someone that is intimate with Christ, use their love walk. This means that if you want to know someone that really loves Jesus, look at the way he loves other Christians.
The question I will like to ask you today is this; how do you treat other Christians? The Bible says in John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” So Jesus is saying that the proof of love is self sacrifice. So if you claim to love Jesus you should be willing to sacrifice of yourself for Him.
1 John 3:14-16 says, “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” This shows us again that our love for one another is proven by self sacrifice. So if we are not sacrificing for one another, it means that we are not walking in love with each another.
1 John 3:16 says, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” This shows us that our love walk is an obligation we owe to one another. Therefore, owe no man nothing but to love him Romans 13:8.
