TRUE LOVE

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17(KJV)

The question I will like to ask you today is this, “Does your love fluctuate?” Most times when people tell others, 'I love you', sometimes, they say so because, they are mutually attracted to that person. It could also be because of what they know they will benefit, or because of what they are already benefiting from that relationship.

Today, I want you to know that if the only reason why you have said that you love someone is because of a physical attraction you have for that person, or because of what you are benefiting from them, it simply means you don't really love them. This is because, the moment you no longer feel attracted to them, or you are no longer benefiting anything from them, you will likely turn away from them. That is not the standard to use in measuring your love for others.

Some men think that they love a woman, and they are going to marry her because she is tall, fair and slim. Others believe that they love a woman because of her voice or the way she sings. That is not how you measure true love. This is because if your love for others is just because of their physical appearance,Or their physical abilities, such love is weak and it will not last.

True love, is agape. Agape is a self-giving and self sacrificing love. It is not like phileo that fluctuates because it is based on feeling. Agape is constant, it does not fluctuate. Therefore, measure your love with agape (self-giving and self sacrificing), and not with phileo (your feelings or your senses).

PRAYER
Dear Father, I ask that you cause me to increase and abound in love towards other believers and towards all men, in Jesus Name. Amen.
