Wednesday, July 20th Why tongues? “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; …” 1 Corinthians 14:4a One way you can grow your spirit strong is by praying in other tongues. It is so important that you pay attention to the condition of your spirit and that is why speaking in tongues is recommended for your personal spiritual development as a child of God. Speaking in tongues will not only edify you, it will also improve you. 1 Corinthians 14:4a (AMP) shows us that, “He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself,” Speaking in tongues helps you to build up yourself according to 1 Corinthians 14:4a (ESV), “The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself,” Speaking in tongues will help you to grow faster spiritually as seen in 1 Corinthians 14:4a (GW), “When a person speaks in another language, he helps himself grow.” The Message Bible says, “The one who prays using a private "prayer language" certainly gets a lot out of it” .Therefore, if you want to always get a lot out of your personal prayer time, spend quality time praying in other tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:14 (BBE) says, “For if I make use of tongues in my prayers, my spirit makes the prayer, but not my mind.” When you pray in tongues, you charge up your spirit because praying in tongues is specifically for the development of your spirit; and the condition of your spirit is what decides the quality of your life. Instruction. If you are not filled with the Holy Spirit, read Luke 11:10-13 and then ask the Father to fill you with the Holy Spirit and then receive utterance by faith to pray in tongues. The utterances are tongues you will hear in your spirit. As you listen and hear them from within, you speak them forth in faith. That is the Lord giving you your prayer language.
