The time test

Friday April 15th
The time test.

“And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.” Genesis 29:18

One of the ways you know true love is through patience or the willingness to wait. Jacob was willing to serve Laban for seven years because of Rachel his younger daughter. That is a practical display of true love.

True love is self-giving, self-sacrificing and patient. Love is the mother of perseverance. One of the ways to test true love is by patience. In Genesis 29:20 the Bible says, “And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.”

If a man or a woman cannot be patient enough to wait till both of you are married before having any marital relationship with you what he or she has for you is not true love. True love is always willing to wait but lust, the opposite of love, is always selfish and self-seeking and never willing to wait. The test of time exposes lust but time strengthens love.

The Bible says that seven years seemed like a few days for Jacob because he loved Rachel. With this example you can judge for yourself if what you have for others is true love or lust.

Prayer.
Dear Father, I thank you for teaching me the truth about love. I ask that you expose every seed of falsehood that has entered into my belief system in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
