“In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and
supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who
was able to save him from death, and he was heard
because of his reverence.”
Hebrews 5:7 (ESV)
The true fear of God in the New Testament is
also genuine love and reverence for God. This was
what we saw evident in the life of
Jesus as revealed to us in our opening scripture.
Do you have a reverence for God? If Jesus was
heard because of His reverence then what about
you?
In Acts 9:31 (ESV) the Bible says, “So the church
throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had
peace and was being built up. And walking in the
fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy
Spirit, it multiplied.”
This verse above shows us that the fear or reverence
for God is a required attitude in the New Testament.
One woman that walked in the power of God we
will keep talking about even to the next generation
was Kathryn Kuhlman. She had such a love and
reverence for the Holy Spirit and as a result the
miracles in her ministry were amazing. There was a
time a crippled woman was brought to her so she
could pray for her, at the same time she wanted to
lead some men to Christ, so while she led the men to
Christ and laid hands on them, as they fell under the
power of the Holy Spirit, the crippled woman on a
wheel chair who was watching got on her feet and
walked without being prayed for.
Love and reverence for the Holy Spirit was her
secret. She once said that whenever she sees those
who are sick or did not receive healing, sometimes
she feels like she should lay down her life for them
to be healed. That was how much compassion she
had for them. Do you have such compassion in your
heart and reverence for the Holy Spirit?
Instruction.
Please read Matthew 14:14 and Mark 5:19 and
ask the Father to give you His compassion for
the sick and oppressed.
