Prayer Must Be Verbal

“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say …” Luke 11:2.

Yesterday, we defined prayer as a heartfelt verbal request. This means that if you are not talking you are not praying. This is why Jesus said in our opening scripture, “… When ye pray, say,…”

There is a difference between meditation and prayer.  There are people who say that they are praying in their mind. If you are praying in your mind, you are meditating.

Prayer is always verbal. It starts from the heart and it must come out from the mouth. In Matthew 26:41- 42 Jesus said, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, …” In Matthew 26:44 we see  again that when Jesus prayed he opened His mouth and spoke words, “And he left them, and went away  again, and prayed the third time, saying the same  words.”

When you pray, it is also important for you to speak words that are in line with the will of God. In other words, let your prayers be based on the Word of God as revealed in the Bible. 1 John 5:14-15 says,  “And this is the confidence that we have in him,  that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he  heareth  us:  And  if  we  know  that  he  hear  us,  whatsoever  we  ask,  we  know  that  we  have  the  petitions that we desired of him.”

Instruction.
Please read Ephesians 1:17 and ask God to give you wisdom and insight into the knowledge of
Him.

For further study, read:
Ecclesiastes 5:2, Hosea 14:2, Matthew 6:6-8.

Doing the Word
Stop praying in your mind, open your mouth and pray based on the Word of God.
