“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 5:14-15.
When you pray, your prayers are like petitions to God. This is why it is important for you to know that you cannot make a petition where there is no law that guarantees or permits that petition. Therefore, when you pray, your prayer should be based on the Word of God.
This is why we defined prayer as the heartfelt verbal request made upon God based on His promise to meet that need. When you are praying based on the Word of God, you are praying based on His promise to meet that need.
Another definition of prayer is that “Prayer is a verbal expression of our heart's desire based on God's written intention to meet that particular need or needs.” In other words, you cannot ask God to do what He has not promised.
Prayer is not a mere religious exercise. It is the exercise of our legal rights in the kingdom. If it is a legal issue then there have to be rules and parameters that we must follow in order to get results in prayer. I encourage you to continue to read this devotional daily this month and you will gain insight into the rules and parameters for effective praying.
