The doctrine of forgiveness.
“and in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.” Luke 24:47(GNB)
God has commanded us to preach the message about repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations. Therefore, what is repentance? Repentance is from the Greek word 'metanoia' which means to repent. It also means a change or alteration of mind or a change in ones thinking.
What is forgiveness? Forgiveness is from the Greek word 'aphesis' which means freedom, pardon, forgiveness, remission, deliverance, etc. Having a good understanding of the doctrine of forgiveness will help you to enjoy the benefits of forgiveness as made available to you in Christ according to the scriptures.
Many, who are not taught on the doctrine of forgiveness, believe that God forgives, but they also believe that God remembers their sins from time to time. This erroneous belief keeps them in bondage and in guilt because of their past sins.
Understanding the doctrine of forgiveness in the New Testament will bring you freedom because when God forgives your sins, it means that they are completely remitted by the blood of Jesus, if they are remitted, it means that God will not remember your sins anymore. This completely frees you from all bondage and guilt from your past.
Galatians 5:1(GW) says, “Christ has freed us so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom. Therefore, be firm in this freedom, and don't become slaves again.”
Prayer.
Dear Father, I thank you for making me a partaker of the inheritance of the Saints in light. Thank you for making me free by the blood of Jesus Christ which was shed for the remission of all my sins. By my faith in the blood of Jesus I receive forgiveness from all sins of the past in Jesus' Name, Amen.
