He died your death.
“This is how we've come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us…”
1 John 3:16(MSG)
I read the story of a man whose son was named after him. The boy had never seen his father and was supposed to be executed because of an offence he committed. His father whom he had never seen was also a prisoner, and knew his son was there in prison and about to be executed.
When the day for the execution came, the executioners went to the prison calling the name of the boy that was supposed to be executed because they could not identify him facially. When the father heard the name, he knew it was his son that was about to be executed so he came out in place of his son and he was executed.
While the son who was supposed to be executed was waiting to be called, he did not know his father had already been executed for him. When he was able to find an officer later, he asked if he was not going to be executed anymore. It was then he was asked for his name. When he mentioned his name, he was told that someone who answered the same name with him had been executed in his place. That was how his life was spared because his father took his place.
That is the same thing Jesus did for us. Romans 5:8-9 say, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
Prayer.
Dear Father, I am grateful for Your everlasting love towards me in the death of Jesus Christ that has brought me salvation and saved me from the wrath to come in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
