Are You Carnal?

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto
spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in

Christ.”
1 Corinthians 3:1.

Who is a carnal man? According to our
opening scripture, a carnal man is a babe
in Christ. Paul addressed the Corinthian church
saying, “… I, brethren, could not speak unto
you as unto spiritual …” This meant that he
expected them to grow to be spiritual but they were
carnal.

The word 'carnal' is from the word 'carne' like when
you say carnivorous which means, meat, fleshly,
etc. Hence a carnal Christian is a Christian who is
governed by his fleshly appetite. His body rules
over him and dominates him.

A carnal Christian does what he feels he should do,
not what the Word of God says to do. Such a
Christian is carnal and childish in thinking.

Therefore since the Corinthian Christians were not
growing as they ought, Paul said to them in 1
Corinthians 3:2-3, “I have fed you with milk, and
not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear
it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal
…”

I encourage you to examine your Christian life
based on what you have learnt today to know if you
have actually grown or you are still a carnal
Christian.

Prayer.
I pray that the God of peace, that great Shepherd
of the sheep, Who raised Jesus Christ from the
dead make me perfect in every good work to do
His will, working in me that which is pleasing
in His sight, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Romans 8:6-9, Romans 8:13, 1 Corinthians 3:3.

Doing the Word
Ask yourself the following questions, “Am I
controlled by my body or fleshly appetite?” “Do
I do more of what I feel than what the Word of
God tells me to do?” If your answer to these
questions is yes then I encourage you to take the
principles you will be learning in this
devotional seriously so you can grow spiritually.
