The Fear of the Lord

The Fear of the Lord

Hebrews 12:28 NKJV
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
The acceptable way to serve God is through reverence and godly fear. To reverence God is to treat Him with high regard or great esteem. To reverence God is to treat Him great honor and respect. To reverence God is to exalt Him and magnify Him above everything else and everyone else. In other words, where there’s reverence, God’s Word will be final authority; His Word will be exalted above all other opinions, suggestions or ideas.
Wherever God is reverenced, He is honored. All that concerns Him is treated with high regard and great respect. Genesis 22:12 NKJV And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. Wherever there’s reverence for God, there’s a genuine hatred for sin. Men and women who fear God, hate sin, pride (even in themselves) and arrogance.
To fear God is to obey Him. Reverence is unrestrained loyalty and obedience to God irrespective of unfavorable circumstances. To fear God is to defer to Him always. To fear God is to submit to the authority of His Word selflessly. Proverbs 8:13 NKJV The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
The Blessings of Reverence
Reverence is revealed in our attitude towards God and men. Reverence is a thing of the heart. It is more than a mere outward show of humility and devotion to God. It is a lifestyle of heartfelt loyalty to God and all that He represents even at the expense of self.

  1. Wherever there’s genuine reverence for God, there will be a free flow of revelation.
    Proverbs 1:7 NKJV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
    Psalms 111:10 NKJV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.
Irreverence will block the free flow of revelation. The Bible says, “And shall make Him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: And He shall not judge after the sight of His eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of His ears.”
Genuine reverence will lead to uncommon insight as was seen in the life of Joseph and Daniel.
  2. Wherever there’s reverence, you will see miracles.
    Acts 2:43 NKJV
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
    Acts 5:11-16 NKJV
And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. -- There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
Wherever there’s genuine reverence for God, you will see outstanding miracles. Wherever God is honored, exalted and magnified above all else, He will show up and show off: glorifying Himself by doing miracles. Such miracles like the lame walking, the blind seeing, the dead being raised to life, the maimed made whole. These are called mighty deeds in the Scriptures.
  3. Wherever there’s reverence there will be generational blessings.
    Genesis 22:12-18 NKJV
And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
Psalms 112:1-2 NKJVBlessed is the man who fears the Lord,Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. When we reverence God obey Him. We are excited about His Word and do what He commands us to do. This unlocks generational blessings.
What is a generational blessing? A generational blessing is a divine endowment upon a man or woman that defines their generation that empowers them to be fruitful, productive, successful and prosperous in all that they do. They are always the head wherever they find themselves and excel above their peers. It marks a family for many generations. Every succeeding generation becomes greater than the previous one. That’s a generational blessing. It increases with every new generation.
  4. The Fear of the Lord can lead to Church growth.
Acts 9:31 NKJV The Church Prospers
Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
Acts 5:12-14 NKJV Continuing Power in the Church
And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon's Porch. Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly. And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
If you observe, you will notice that the largest Churches in the world are majorly Churches where the Word of God is highly reverenced, in other words, held in high esteem. For instance, the largest Church in the World in South Korea. What about the largest Churches in Nigeria. Selah.
To fear God is to depend completely on His help. Men who fear God are humble. They know that without divine help they will fail so they lean on the empowering assistance of the Eternal Holy Spirit. He is the Lord of the Harvest. He is the One who draws men. Men and women who reverence and recognize the Holy Spirit always command a large following. This is because God gives more grace to the humble. The humble are those who know that without God they will utterly fail. It is this attitude of complete God dependence that makes God summon the crowds to listen to them. If you will only humble yourself, God will increase the grace on your life. Selah
Without divine help, millions will not gather for a Church meeting. It takes the grace of God and the Supernatural help of God to see millions of people gather for a meeting. If you doubt it. Organize a meeting and see whether millions will gather without divine help.

Thanks for reading through this message. May the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord mantle your heart and life. May God put a generational blessing on you such that with every seed in your bloodline there shall be an increase in Blessing, graces and Divine empowerment in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
