Don't be arrogant.

"Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard."

Proverbs 13:15

Our opening scripture shows us that good understanding gives favour, but we also learn that the way of transgressors is hard. This means that the reason why some people's lives are hard is because there is something they don't understand, so they are transgressing life principles.

For instance, some people do not know that their arrogance is actually blocking their access to wisdom and the grace of God. Jesus our ultimate example never lived his life in arrogance. The Bible says in Luke 2:51, "And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: …" Jesus, God in the flesh, was subject to His earthly parents. This meant that He was submissive and obedient to them.

Don't be arrogant. It has strong consequences. The Bible says in James 4:6(ISV), "But he gives all the more grace. And so he says, "God opposes the arrogant but gives grace to the humble."" This means that if you want grace to abound in your life, you must be humble. That was what Jesus did. In humility, he followed Mary and Joseph to Nazareth, learnt the trade of his earthly father Joseph and became a carpenter. Because He was humble, God's wisdom and grace increased in His life. Then the Bible says in Luke 2:52, "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."

The fact that the call of God is upon your life does not mean that you should become arrogant. The fact that this is a year of great grace does not mean you should continue in arrogance. Arrogance or pride will make your life hard. Therefore, be humble. Be submissive and habitually obey the constituted authorities that God has placed over you. As you do, His wisdom and His grace will be increasing in your life.

Prayer.

Dear Father, I choose to repent from every way I have been arrogant to the constituted authorities that you have placed over my life. Help me to consistently walk in humility even as I turn from my own way to do your will in Jesus Name. Amen.
