“On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the
city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: And he
became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell
into a trance,”
Acts 10:9 (KJV).
I learnt something that breakfast was coined into the English language about
one thousand years after Acts 10 was written. Before then, Jews lived a fasted
life. When they eat their supper at 8pm, they would not eat anymore again until
12pm the next day. That means that for about 16 hours, the Jew was fasting.
This makes you understand why Peter had not still eaten at about the
sixth hour (12pm). In other words, he was in a fast when he saw in a trance
that the Gospel should go to the Gentiles. This shows us that fasting positions
us in line with God’s plan. Fasting sharpens your spiritual perception. That is
why Peter could see God’s plan.
Acts 27:9 says, “Now when much
time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now
already past, Paul admonished them,
And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and
much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.”
The fast referred to in the above verse is the ceremonial public fast of
the Jews. So, Paul was perceptive because he was in a fast. This is to let you
know that when you are fasting, your spirit becomes more sensitive to God and
His leading. So, it is important that you pay attention to the signals of the
Spirit as you fast. Take the directions he gives you seriously. Write them down
and act upon them.
Do you know that through fasting, God can reveal to you things that will
avert destruction and loses from your life? Are you also aware that fasting
activates the ministry of angels, and that God can make His plans for you
clearer during a fast? All these things mentioned above all happened to Paul
while he fasted in Acts 27:21-26.
PRAYER
Father I thank you for a release of the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation
in the knowledge of you. I thank you for the eyes of my understanding are
flooded with light. My eyes are
anointed to see and my ears are anointed to hear what the Spirit is saying to
me at this time in Jesus Name. Amen.
Acts 10:30-32, Acts 11:4-18.
DOING THE WORD
Read 2 Thessalonians 3:1 and pray that the gospel of the
Lord Jesus Christ would have free course every where it is preached today.
