Humility 2.

“And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them”
Luke 2:51(KJV).

From our opening scripture, we see that in the life of Jesus even as He grew from a child, He exhibited the character of humility in His life, by submitting to God’s program. The bible says in Luke 2:51 that Jesus was subject to His parents. The word ‘subject’ in that scripture is from the Greek word ‘hupotasso.’ This means; “to submit to the control of someone, to subject oneself, to yield to some ones admonition or advice.” Even though Jesus was the Son of God in truth, yet he remained subject to His earthly parents, until the time appointed. He was Lord of all but he had to remain in submission until God’s timing.
When Jesus was given an instruction by His parents, he obeyed. As He did, He was learning authority. When He continued in this way of humility, the bible says in Luke 2:52, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” This was the result of walking in humility in the life of Jesus. He went to another level of favor in His life. Favor both with God and with men.

You’ve got to cultivate this attitude, if you want to go far with God. So, if you want to make great advancement in your spiritual walk, one of the virtues you have to develop in your life is humility. You never really know how well you have developed humility in your life until you are under pressure. This is because pressure forces you to express your true character.

Not walking in humility may hinder God’s favor from manifesting in your life. For example, the bible says in Psalm 18:25-26, “With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright; With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.” In other words, God deals with you based on who you are and the character of your life. So, walking in humility is definitely the right posture to take at such a time as this. This is surely a time of promotion.

PRAYER
Father I thank you because I know that promotion does not come from anyone or anywhere else but from you. Thank you for grace to remain in this path of humility. I thank you for as I do, I shall experience an increase of favor and wisdom in Jesus Name. Amen.

Matthew 23:11, Luke 9:46-48, Luke 14:11, Proverbs 18:12, 1 Peter 5:6.

DOING THE WORD
Keep yourself subject to all authority which God has placed over you, and cultivate a servant heart.
