Forgive 3

“Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.”
Hebrews 12:15b (NLT)

In the past three days I have been sharing with you on the importance of not holding bitterness and being quick to forgive others. Another reason why such a lifestyle is important is because it has been proven that one of the chief causes of cancer is bitterness. Holding bitterness in your heart will make you a breeding ground for cancer.

I heard that a man of God died of a particular disease and I was shocked that a man of God like that could die from such an affliction. One day as I talked with one of my friends about it, who is also a minister of the gospel, he told me that he called an elder in the faith when it happened and it was revealed that that particular man of God never forgives.

Do you forgive? When I did my research about cancer, I discovered that in one of the hospitals in America, one of the first things they do to any cancer patient is to find out if they are holding any unforgiveness against anyone. One of their basic stories is that of a woman whose husband was kidnapped by some rebels in Columbia. As they demanded for a ransom, they will repeatedly rape her husband and send the photographs to his wife with all the blood. She became very angry and bitter against them. Finally, after her husband was released and brought home, she was diagnosed with cancer, when she went to this particular hospital, as she was taken through the therapy and asked if she was holding unforgiveness, she admitted that she was bitter against the rebels who kidnapped her husband. She was counseled and encouraged to forgive them. After she was able to forgive them, the cancer went into remission.

I wonder what is in your body that your bitterness has caused. Do not let bitterness take root in your heart because according to our opening scripture, your bitterness will trouble you.

Prayer.
Dear Father, I ask that You reveal Your love to me in a deep and intimate way so that I may be able to express the same quality of love to others around me, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Doing the Word
“If you are angry, don't sin by nursing your grudge. Don't let the sun go down with you still angry-get over it quickly; for when you are angry, you give a mighty foothold to the devil.” Ephesians 4:26-27 (TLB)
