The purpose of the law.

The purpose of the law.
“… for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Romans 3:20

Our opening scripture lets us see that the law was given so that we may know what sin is. Without the law, there will be no accurate knowledge of sin.

Therefore, because of the coming in of the law, sin abounded, according to Romans 5:20 which says, “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” The law was not given to make anyone righteous. You can only be righteous by faith. The law shows us how sinful man is in order to reveal his need for a savior because no one can keep the whole law.

The Bible says in Romans 3:19(CEV), “We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty.” The requirement of the law make the whole world guilty before God. For instance, the law states in Leviticus 15:19-26 that a woman in her cyclic period is unclean, and anything she touches becomes unclean. This means that if she cooks for her husband, the food is unclean; if he eats it,

he becomes unclean; anyone he touches wherever he goes becomes unclean, so that uncleanness spreads on. That is one of the reasons why it is impossible to keep the whole law.

Thanks be to our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we have received grace and justification from all that we could not be justified by the laws of Moses.

Confession:
Thanks be to God who has given me the victory through my Lord Jesus Christ. By my faith in Jesus Christ I declare that I have been completely delivered from all things that I could not be justified from by the laws of Moses. Thank you Father for this grace. Amen.
