Merciful

"And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful …" Exodus 34:6

The first character God revealed about Himself after proclaiming His Name as seen in our opening scripture is 'merciful'. Notice that He did not say powerful. He said, ‘merciful.’

‘Merciful’ is from the Hebrew word 'hemla' which means, to commiserate. This could also mean empathy. This means that God is able to feel what you feel and able to help you come out of it. God knows exactly how you feel, He knows your pains and He also knows your hurts. He is merciful. He knows exactly what you are going through.

The Bible says in Hebrews 4:14-16(CEV), "We have a great high priest, who has gone into heaven, and he is Jesus the Son of God. That is why we must hold on to what we have said about him. Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help."

Prayer.

Merciful Father, I thank you for your undeserved kindness towards me. I realize that you understand every weakness of mine. Therefore, I come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace for every area of need in my life in Jesus Name. Amen.
