New Testament heritage 2.

"Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."

Luke 24:45-47

The word, remission, is an accounting word. It is from the word ‘aphesis’ in the Greek. It means to let go, to send away. Jesus is saying in our opening scripture that we should preach remission of sins, so that people will know that God has forgiven them and when He forgives them, He will not use the forgiven sins against them anymore.

Knowing that God is merciful does not give you a licence to live a sinful life. Living a sinful life willfully is rejecting the mercy and grace of God towards you. It exposes you to suffer the consequences of your sins and judgment or condemnation.

True grace is never an excuse to sin. It is an empowerment to live above sin. Anyone that preaches and tells you that under grace, your lifestyle does not count is not preaching the true gospel.

Titus 2:11-12 says, "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;"
